I like the pp done on the colours and saturation, if any. But I think the background is slightly distracting.
I prefer this pic of yours with maybe a tighter crop so that the face and skin texture could be more clearly seen. Think it would really give impact to the pic.

Some space to the left for the man to drag into will enhance the pic.
the skin texture is akin to something called the Dragan effect - very contrasty and very textured - wont work on all types of skin - but looks great in this instance; perhaps it is just natural: the man's face is very contrasty and vety textured after years working at sea.
The other thing is the sky - the clouds are rather flat. This is due to the flattening out of the S-curve in the highlights. Some blending and masking will help this, if you know how to do it, or maybe a more complex but very precise curve than an S may also work. Maybe the next flickr meetup can tell you how to do that.
