For long range lens, I need a small window on the top right corner of the
viewfinder that shows a larger area than what will show on the image
sensor, either by projection or special dedicated lens component. It will
make it easier to track my subject.

i use my right eye on the VF and keep my left eye open, same when i go for M16 range.

buy the D2X.. it has a crop function that lets u see the surrounding area of your actual image cropping.
