Why dont you get a second hand Mju II Olympus? a fixed lens (35mm) and f2.8. (the cheapest fixed lens, wide aperture, automatic cam there is)

It is cheap, you could get it for under $100 second hand.

The models DSC-U10, DSC-U20 (1MP and 2MP respectively) very small, can slip into a shirt pocket.

Can consider Casio's Exilim EX-M3, very slim and still have 3x optical zoom and large LCD screen (2.0") but use built in battery, so if battery runs out.....

SONY's DSC-U20 runs on 2 x AAA batteries, so better..
