No problem. It's actually quite simply with an SLR or DSLR and a zoom lens. Just set the shutter speed to a slow one (1/2s in this case), press the shutter release and while the shutter curtain is opened, change the focal length of the zoom lens (simply means zoom it). The changing of focal length from wide to tele (or vice versa) will leave the light trail behind. This is slightly harder to be done for ring type zoom and easier for the old push pull zoom (which happened to be the one I was using, an AFD 70-210). If you are using a consumer DC, it might be impossible to acheive this as you'll not be able to zoom while the DC is taking the shot.
