Took this pix few days ago.
http://www.pbase.com/image/23488364

I really like it, but somehow, i got the feeling that it can be a lot nicer if some artistic editing has been done to it. I tried playing around with it in PS but still not satisfied with myself. All i had done to the pix is to lower its saturation as shown here:

Can anyone modify the pix and show me an example of what PS can do? any changes, desaturate, crop, USM, blur, artistic filters, anything. And post it here for everyone.

Thks

PS: how do we load the pix to this page instead of a link? Do Pbase allow us to access their files directly like this?

Moved from World of Nature gallery to Digital Darkroom which is the appropriate forum for digital artistry.

PS can do wonders... the followings are just tip of the iceberg. Only render-on-the-fly some filters/ effects without physical manupulation (ie: haven't started on lasso-ing the dog and making it a separate layer)

B&W - using Channels (Blue) & Levels & Artistic Film Grains
B_W.jpg

Desaturated with slight diffusion - Fade Dust & Scratches & Desaturate
Desat.jpg

Diffused Glow - inside Filters
Diffused_Glow.jpg

Sadako's dog (The Ring) - PS Action filter & Feathering the selection and applying Hues
Ghost.jpg

InfraRed effect (with red filter @ 35%)
IR_red.jpg

The possibilities too many man..

to do a direct linkage, just PM Darren for a subscription to Clubsnap's webspace. Pbase does't allow direct linkage unless you are a paid subscriber of their webspace.

Cheerz!

ah.. the original source pic has some kind of halo around the dog already suggesting it has been Photoshoped already. anyway, I prefer a saturated version like this. What do you think?

yeah, i like this too.
it has the retro feeling... like the pictures we saw when i was a kid.

Hi Chaotic,
The picture in the first link i provided is original. I only changed the resolution. About the holo around the dog, i think that is created naturally as the dog is black in color, and my exposure settings are set to it. The edge of the dog reflects some of the light from the atmosphere and will look brighter than the dog itself, hence created this holo effect.

Hi, the workflow is pretty simple.

Open the image in PS
Do what's necessary to it - USM/ Transformation...etc
Once done, you are ready to do the effect.
Duplicate the 1st image into a new layer
Go to FILTERS-> NOISE-> Dust & Scratches
Enter the value as desired: I used Radius:16, Threshold:8
Click OK. Your pic will look like a patch work
Then open FILTERS->FADE DUST & SCRATCHES, adjust the level to 50% opacity.
You have that diffused look.

THen merge the 2 layers together and open IMAGE->ADJUSTMENTS->HUE & SATURATION.

Desaturate till desired.

Cheerz!

THanks a mil!
Din quite get your exact steps down, but i get your idea and work about it.
doesn't really work well for skin tones i think, for desaturation, looks weird,...or maybe my PS skill not good enough.
