Eh.. i think you need to specify walkabout where? I think based on the choices you've made, it looks more like which all in one zoom should i choose.

Pentax 18-250mm should cover every range u want already...haha

joke aside..I think the 17-70mm is a rather good range to be considered as a good walkabout lens. When I was @ phuket I basically only use that lens.

Tamron 18-250mm and Pentax 18-250mm is basically about the same. For general walk around and if you don't need a fast lens, it's good enough, covering wide to tele range. I'll pick the Pentax coz am a Pentaxian.
