For those who use your WACOM tablets, do you all actually make contact between the pen and plastic cover of the tablet?

Sorry for the noob question. Just using one. Realized the pen can be detected even if it is 5mm above the surface. My concern is will the pen create scratch marks on the plastic after a while?

Thanks...

The tablet writing area is protected by a sheet that can be readily replaced. And when you hover your pen over the surface, it translate to the corresponding point on screen, just like your mouse. So to answer your question, you dont have to touch the tablet to move the cursor about, unless you need to select or click or perform to predetermined action like write or draw.
