Visual strike again - Pentax K-S1

K3 isn't really very bulky. Even compared to my X-E1 the dimensions aren't that far off actually. You can see a size comparison to your K-01 here: http://camerasize.com/compare/#485,285

But it is heavy.

The trouble is that Pentax only puts 14-bit RAW in its flagships I think. For a landscape photographer, that 2 bits can get very useful especially during clear sky sunsets/sunrises, where the color gradation will start to band under 12-bit RAW.

Also another reason why I'm waiting for secondhand XE-2 prices to drop. :)

True true i agree bro and 14 bit is really important for landscaper. Anw we still dont know whether k-s1 is 12 or 14 bit raw but most probably is 12 bit. I getting it more for light weight travel...anw just wait for it performance report b4 deciding l....

I think this camera will either have people loving the looks or hating it.

Do we know the purpose of the lights on the grip?

Think of all the eye contact that you are gonna get.....

I actually think the camera looks quite good if you switch off all the blinking lights. The shape is very modern, a mixture of curves and hard lines.

Oh, hold on! Is this desin look like a removable pentamirror and removable mirror box! :)

Seems to take design cue from samsung camera

Good point. I can imagine if you are taking with a large group of photographers. The subject will be giving you the full eye contact compared the other photographers. He or she will be looking at the lights and wondering " What is that?".

;)

I got to say that it seems pretty good.
Esp for an entry camera.
20mp, no AA filter with AA simulator.
100% view pentaprism not a cheap penra mirror
The LED makes sense too...

No AA filter is nice. Give it the -3 AF sensitivity...... mmmm

I guess is a great buy...hmmmm

It looks like a half transformed mirrorless

cool, how it compares to K50, except the new 20MP sensor

Oh man... Where's my dual wheel?!

I pray that they do not remove the hardware controls on their next flagship camera.... *prays hard*

From a K-01 user point of view, the K-S1 looks more from K-01 than from K-50.

I think they remove dual wheel to reduce complexity to new users, I have been living with single wheel dial in K-x, K-01 since beginning,

that may be the only thing that they can think to stop stealing sales from K-3,

K-S1's K-3 feature stealing

* same bigger 0.95x 100% viewfinder as K-3, (K-50, 0.92x100%)
* AA-simulator,
* Flu-card remote control,
* similar MP, 20-24

What is better than K-3, K-50, K-01
* 100g lighter than K-50
* 250g lighter than K-3
* same weight as K-01
* 1cm slimmer than K-50 and K-3, still K-S1 is 1cm taller and deeper than K-01

What is slower comparing to K-3
* better than K-50, slower than K-3 processor (M < MII < MIII)
* 5.4fps vs K-50 6fps vs K-3 8.4fps
* same focus system as K-50, 11 points,
* same meter system as K-50

if K-S1 got dual dial, it is too close to be K-3,

For K-01 users, it is good choice to upgrade to, maybe not K-30, K-50 users.

====================================

They remove the AA battery option, which now I think it is ok, since reducing weight is more important in the competition,

Another reason K-S1 is more appealing for small size than K-50

Overall design is better,

Strangely now for me, the colored versions look the best.
In fact better than any other colored dslr so far

looking at k-s1 now..i kinda regret selling my DA21..it will be a good match with DA21 and DA40....
