1. in what area is critique to be sought?
Lighting. is it too dark? i kept it dark to add drama

2. what one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
draw your attention to those scary eyes.

3. under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
artificial light, through the glass

4. what the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture

something is missing. cant pinpoint what

yup the lighting is abit dark

the focus i see from here its the top of the snake's head and not the eyes.

wonder if u allow to use a flash light to bounce off those top leaves?(hmm, maybe will create unwanted shadows)
How about lower ur F to maybe 1.8?

i think u wanted to focus on the eye but now the eyes not prominent enough. maybe a diagonal view to the head with a focus on the eye would bring out the scary eye effect. cos from the shape of this snake's head, u cant really get a fully shown pair of eyes from the front.

just some noob comment
Cheers!

I feel that the leaf is very distracting in this photo.

maybe can photoshop it away? then dodge/burn to bring out the viper

Photo is too dark.
Main subject is not focused.
Composition needs to be adjusted.
