Did some edit and conversion recently.
Some good Freeware video converters out there now. The Freeware are much better than the Canopus Procoder bought long ago. (not cheap).

I use Any Video Converter at home. Free download via cnet I think. But very slow.

At work, coz we cannot install on our own, I have a licensed software called CyberLink PowerDirector installed in my laptop for HD quality conversions and edits. I am forced to use this when I need to compress HD movies from my DSLR.

Any other reliable freeware you can recommend for such video conversions?

Maybe the slowness got something to do with the Codec installed.
Also using Any Video Converter - quite good.
Other freewares? wah, too many to name. Just Google and you get lots of them.

Dabbled with VOB, IFO, etc...Correct VTS Sectors, blah blah...using IFOEdit, MPG2Cut2, and so on.....
At the end of it, find it is a total waste of time and Geek's indulgence.

Also tried the DivX Codec and what's crazy is, that the DivX 7 Player DOES NOT PLAY AND HAS NO SOUND. Upon removing the DivX WebPlayer (since never use), it took out the whole lot and removed everything in the folder. Wow, lots of bugs. In comparison, the VLC (Freeware) Player plays flawlessly everytime.

Upon surfing, others say XVID is a much better Codec than DivX.
The files converted from VOB to XVID are small.

I used the "pro" version of the Any Video Converters.
It's quite useful and user-friendly. :)
