Hi all,

I'm thinking of upgrading my 14" iBook - bulk of usage is photo storage and viewing on iPhoto and editing on PS.
Instead of getting a iMac, I'm thinking of getting a Mac Mini and connecting it to my 31" CRT TV and using that as a computer monitor.
Why I'm asking this question in this forum is that I'm concerned the quality of the TV screen is not going to be enough for purposes of viewing photos or editing photos via Photoshop etc.
Any CSer uses a TV as their computer monitor? Is it inferior compared to a traditional 17" computer monitor? Esp in terms of viewing/ editing photos?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I assume that you have a normal PAL 31" CRT TV.

If so, the limited resolution of PAL (704x506) will not render it to be effective monitor. Besides the pitch between the pixels will be huge, so that also goes against the image quality.

In short, don't waste your energy. I will take a 17" or even a 15" CRT monitor anytime.

TV make rotten computer monitors. Different optimizations. In particular broadcast TV's resolution is quite low, and on the whole you want it that way to smooth out the picture. Being able to display sharp lines of text isn't what you want a TV to do, but it's important for a computer display.

Yup, CRT TV, too low resolution, cannot.

If you are talking about LCD TV, high-resolution ones, yes you can.

I have been using a 23" High Res LCD-TV as my monitor screen for almost two years and it is still great!
