Cool attempt, but it looks really fake. The planes look plastic and the sunset/sunrise for some reason looks really un-natural.

Maybe you want it this way, but ive always preferred it when it looks real!

:)

  Is this a real shot at USS Kitty Hawk???

Nice shot clown.... :)
Taken it to practice some painting. Hope you dont mind.
Let me know if you wanna remove it..

Yeah that's more like it. A couple of VF-1s looks better:D

Oh, also, isnt it USS Kitty Hawk?
yes it's the uss kittyhawk.

this is a composite of like about 6 pictures taken at different timings and lighting conditions.
background is taken about 4 years ago by a D30. the plane on the left was in the below deck hanger with the wings folded and the 'runway' was non-existant to begin with.

i'll welcome any suggestions on how to make it look more 'real'

and btw all pictures are not taken by me. i'm merely the DI artist here.

wah power lah ben!

hehx.. am a macross fan myself. =p

hmm.. seems like i got the direction wrong..
back to the start...

very important, planes to not take off on their own power on a carrier, they are shot off by a catapult so there should be a catapult line on the "runway" leading from the nose wheel.

also carriers turn into the wind to launch the aircraft, not sure if they still do that now with steam catapults. however I would imagine they want to avoid launching into the sun?

yup gonna try to work the thing around..
that's a problem u'll run into when working with other people's pictures.. haha.

yes they still need to turn into the wind to launch aircraft.. plus having to steam at speeds of above 35 knots.. all these just to get airflow over the wings of the aircraft so that there is enough lift for it to fly off the deck.

you can clearly see the landing strip and the 4 catapults in the above picture.

Thanks. The original composition was already pretty good. Apart from the catapult.
Oh yeah, the bunch of planes on the right seem rather tightly packed and repeated. So maybe lesser planes or make em not so aligned.

Composition is pretty clean. I can imagine some effort in doing this.
:)

Minor nitpick: during take-off the rudders are supposed to turn inwards.
When turned outwards (as in your pic) they function as airbrakes instead. ;)

Don't forget about the arrestor hook on the aircraft as well....
sorry guys i was caught up with work recently.
will continue playing with this pic later next week.

btw the arrestor hook is there but kinda dark so u need to really look properly. then again at this resolution it's next to impossible. bleah..
