Dear Friends

I was covering a paid event over the past 3 days. I always backup every photo to my laptop whenever I have the chance. After which I use my Nikon D90 to reformat the card and start using.

Today(Sat) I reformatted the card at 4pm after backing up all the photos. At 5pm, I started shooting again. At 10pm, my D90 reported the card is damaged. My laptop also does not recognise it. Neither does my PC. I am now in a big trouble. How can I go about dealing with this problem? Any recommended data recovery centers?

And, if possible, I would also like to know why such a thing happened.

I feel very unsafe now. 500 over pics were taken at the event today.

Details:

Nikon D90
Original battries
MB D80

Kingston SDHC 4 8GB (Bought in March 2010)

Thank you.

I'm sorry to hear about what happened.

Have you tried all the options of reading the card such as different readers, using the camera as a reader and so on?

Have a look here: http://www.clubsnap.com/forums/showthread.php?t=697992

Not sure if it would help, but no harm looking.

Hope you resolve your card problem soon, and get it replaced.

Also try Googling 'Recovering files from damaged CF card'.

Thank you all for your comments. I googled for some answers and it seems that the chip controller might have busted. That is why my laptop, my pc and camera does not detect it. It states that data should still be intact. I'll go down to PC clinic today to find out they can help me. Caling kingston as well... hopefully I can recover the photos.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Sadly, comlab tech cannot recover data. Called Kingston, also cannot. Went down to Computer Analysts and Recovery Experts (CARE) also cannot. Seems like gone case.

Did Kingston offer and suggestions?

Might not be gone case. Seems like there are ways to do it but not cheap I guess.

Did a quick google and found this site

From a technical point of view, there are three option you can choose:

(1) http://www.binarybiz.com/vlab/windows.html provided you haven't toss it out of the window.

(2) I can recover the SDHC data for you but it'll cost you $550 per MB.

(3) I can teach you how to do it for a cup of coffee.

What's it going to be?

Hey thanks for the reply. I still have the card. Have really given up. If I read correctly, your first choice won't work as the software still requires the card to be read.

Your second choice way over my budget.

Prob, I like your 3rd choice. I'll PM you after Monday if I still need your help.

Check with Datasavers if they can recover your data.. http://www.datasavers.com.sg/rzip.php
Might not be cheap though.
I'll try this one on Mon morn. If they can recover at affordable rate, that will be great.

I am meeting my clients on Mon eve. As this was a 3 day event and the data that was lost was 5 hours of final day, I would like to seek their feedback.

Thank you everyone for your feedbacks and suggestions. I really appreciate it.
