Unknown fault on digital photographs

Hi ! A friend of mine has taken his baby photo using the Kodak 850 with bounce flash and the lip and ear appear some grey shadow. No photo shop trick but wondering where goes wrong? Any one encounter such an experience?:dunno:

Is it caused by "in camera" red-eye reduction maybe :dunno:

I think that camera has software within it to take out red-eye while, or, after the shot.

See if you can turn it off.
