The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), with the sponsorship of Canon Inc., is holding its fourth International Photographic Competition on the Environment under the title "Focus on Your World".
"Focus on Your World" will create a visual journal depicting the challenges facing Earth's rich environmental diversity.

The competition, which is the largest of its kind in the world, invites entries from people of all nationalities and ages and is open to both amateur and professional photographers.

The award winning "Focus on Your World" images will be exhibited throughout the 2005 World Exposition (25 March - 25 September), in Aichi, Japan, at the United Nations Pavilion, whose theme is 'Celebrating Diversity'.

The winning photographs will be featured in travelling exhibitions to increase awareness of the environmental issues worldwide. The "Focus on Your World" photo collection is a unique and ongoing visual record of this critical period in the history of our planet.

We know that the extraordinary diversity of life on our planet is endangered. You are invited to enter "Focus on Your World" and photographically express your hope, joy, anger, and concern for all life on Earth.

Competition period: June 5, 2004 (World Environment Day - October 24, 2004 (United Nations Day)
Categories: General (aged 25 years and over), Youth (aged 15 to 24 years), and Children (aged 14 or younger) *All ages as of October 24, 2004
Entries: Open to anyone, regardless of age, gender, religion, or nationality, professional or amateur status
Judging criteria: Submissions will be judged on how well they illustrate the competition theme

* Both analog and digital photographs will be accepted and photographs may be either colour or black-and-white

Prizes to be awarded: Gold, Silver and Bronze prizes will be awarded in each of the General, Youth, and Children’s categories Cash prize and supplementary prizes will be awarded (e.g. The General category Gold prize: US$20,000)
