Unable to focus on object

Noob using alpha330 for the fast time.

Can someone advice me?

Tried different configuration below:
- AF Continuos and AF Single shot
- AF Area wide and center

Wanted to focus on center object e.g. cup
- Aim the cross hair on cup and press half way
- Camera focus on cup
- Move camera slightly to frame shot but camera begin to focus on center and pick other object
- cup is now not in focus

are u in oneshot AF or AI-Servo?, if the latter, the camera is af-ing all the time.

Tried one shot AF but seems to refocus when I shift the bottle from center to left of frame even though my shot button is half way down. am I doing something wrong?

You should be ok in AF-S. Why not join one of the alpha tcss/kopi sessions/gatherings and we can try to help you out.

if u using single shot AF then the focus shouldnt change.

Only continuous AF will change AF points all the time.

Check your settings again?

Had the same problem on my A300 initially. Solution: Turn off the eye-start AF function. Set to AF-S and set AF area as point AF. It worked for me.

does the MOTOR MOVE (i.e. real refocus)

or are you moving the camera around too much for the dof to catch the cup? (shift of focus, now focus off)

Use manual focus. Haha.

Are you shooting the object at a very close distance?
Some times, if the object is too near, it can't focus properly.
