Ulu Pandan National Day Photography Competition 2012 | Facebook

The competition is organised by the Ulu Pandan Community Arts and Culture Club. The competition aims to:

Develop a deeper understanding of Ulu Pandan Constituency.
Increase community bonding within Ulu Pandan.
Engage the residents to participate in the arts.
Bond the community through photography and visual art.
Develop a more dynamic arts scene in Ulu Pandan.

1. ELIGIBILITY
1.1 The Competition is open to Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents residing in Ulu Pandan. All entrants must agree to abide by these terms and conditions. Only individual entries will be considered. Entry to this competition is free.

1.2 Members of the Ulu Pandan Photography Competition 2012 organising committee and the panel of judges are not eligible to participate in this competition.

2. CATEGORIES


2.1 The Competition will have 2 categories: namely Student and Open categories. Participants in the Student category should be currently pursuing full-time studies in an educational institution in Singapore. Participants cannot enter both categories, even if they may fulfil the criteria for both categories.

2.2 The theme for both categories will be “Ulu Pandan: My Home”. This could include images of people in action, celebration and/or joyful moments that illustrate and/or unique landmarks of Ulu Pandan division and/or capture in the above mentioned theme. The list given here is only an example and is non-exhaustive.

3. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

3.1 A maximum of 3 photographs per participant is allowed, for both categories. However, regardless of the number of entries submitted by the participant, he/she will only stand to win one prize, except for Special Prize (see 3.7)

3.2 Photographs must be taken within Ulu Pandan Constituency. Participants are required to state on the entry form when and where the submitted photograph was taken.

3.3 Entries are required to have an accompanying description or caption of the photo, explaining how it fits the theme of the competition.

3.4 Digital manipulation that distorts the reality of the photos will not be allowed. Only basic enhancements such as sharpening, contrast adjustment, converting colour images to black & white will be allowed.

3.5 For images captured on film, it is the participant's responsibility to scan the image into digital "JPEG" format.

3.6 Any submission containing or implying pornographic, slanderous, obscene or vulgar content would be immediately disqualified.

3.7 Soft copies of the entries will be posted on the “Ulu Pandan, Our Home” Facebook Page. The photo with the most number of Facebook “likes” will win the Special Prize.

3.8 For the Facebook component, the participant is not allowed to use unfair method (eg. Facebook Voting Exchange) to obtain the number of likes. The organising committee reserves the right to disqualify any entries who use such techniques.

3.9 Hard copies of images are to be printed on A4 size paper and soft copies of images are to be in the following format:

5. ADJUDICATION

5.1 A panel of Singapore adjudicators will judge the entries.

5.2 The adjudicating panel reserves the right to award, or not award any prizes as they deem fit.

5.3 The adjudicating panel’s decision is final and no discussion or correspondence will be entertained.

6. AWARDS

6.1 The following prizes will be awarded for the four categories:

Open Category
1st Prize: $1000 cash
2nd Prize: $700 cash
3rd Prize: $500 cash
Special Prize: $250 cash
5 Merit Prizes: $100 cash each

Student Category
1st Prize: $800 cash
2nd Prize: $500 cash
3rd Prize: $300 cash
Special Prize: $150 cash
5 Merit Prizes: $50 cash each

7 RESULTS AND AWARD CEREMONY FOR PRIZE WINNERS

7.1 The Award presentation will be held on 4th August 2012 in conjunction with the Ulu Pandan National Day Celebration Dinner.

7.2 All prize winners are required to attend the Award presentation. Prize winners will be notified of the details nearer the date of presentation.

8 ENTRY PROCEDURES

8.1 Entries must be submitted to the Ulu Pandan Community Club between 1st June 2012, 9am to 30th June 2012, 9pm.

8.2 A photocopy of NRIC/birth certificate or document showing proof of nationality and citizenship / permanent resident status must be enclosed with the submission. Participants in the Student Category should enclose proof of full-time studies.

8.3 Entries will not be returned to participants. As such, participants are advised to retain a copy of their entry. Ulu Pandan Community Club shall not be liable for any manuscripts lost or damaged in transit.

8.4 Late, illegible or incomplete entries will not be considered and appeals will not be entertained.

9. ORGANISERS’ RIGHTS


9.1 The organisers reserve the right to disqualify and withhold prizes for entrants violating any of these rules and regulations.

9.2 The organisers reserve the right to change, add or substitute the prizes with comparable alternatives.

9.3 The organisers reserve the right to reproduce, display and distribute the photographs for publication, on an Internet Website and/or display in any media without obtaining further prior permission and payment of any fees to the photographer. Where any photograph is reproduced, the photographer will be credited.

10 COPYRIGHT ISSUES

The Entrant

10.1 The entrant must be the sole author and owner of copyright, intellectual property and all other proprietary rights for the image(s) entered into the Competition.

10.2 The entrant retains full copyright of all images entered into the Competition.

10.3 It is the legal responsibility of the Entrant, not the organisers or sponsors, to ensure compliance with all ownership and copyright requirements, and own the rights to reproduce the image(s).

10.4 Entries that do not fulfil the above criteria will be deemed ineligible and will be disqualified.

The Organisers

10.5 The Organisers reserve the non-exclusive right and royalty to reproduce, display, distribute and show the entrant’s submission for the following purposes:

i. Operating, administering and promoting the competition;

ii. Displaying the entrant’s submission on this competition website and/or Sponsors’ website

iii. Issuing a media release or making media pitches with images regarding winning entries;

iv. Usage of the entrant’s submission during our events, exhibitions and in publications both printed and online.

11 LIABILTY

11.1 The organisers will exercise care in handling the entries submitted. However, they will not be liable for any loss of entries or any unauthorised use of the photographs submitted to the Competition Gallery.

11.2 The entrant accepts all risks of personal injury or property damage of any nature whatsoever that may arise from his/her making or creation of the entry or participation in this competition and will not in any way hold the organisers responsible for any liability, loss, damage, expense and cost which he/she may sustain or incur as a result of his/her participation, except for liability which cannot be excluded by law.

11.3 The entrant (including his or her heirs, parents, legal guardians, executor and/or administrators) hereby agrees to be fully liable to the organisers and their officers, employees and agents for any violation of confidentiality, patent, copyright or any other intellectual property rights in the photograph and materials submitted and shall defend, indemnify and hold the organisers and each of their officers, employees and agents thereof harmless from and against any actions, claims, loss or damages for infringement or alleged infringement of such confidentiality, patent, copyright or any other intellectual property rights.
