To be honest, this is not the kind of quality I'd expect from a 10D, but at least you made the effort to go to Ubin to shoot.

You're referring to his skills or the camera? I hope it's not the latter; owning an expensive piece of equipment does not equate to better pictures.

Pulau Ubin is not a photogenic place if you are there for the first time. Do visit the place again and again to have a feel of the island.

This is better than going there and shooting anything that attracts ones attention. That include shots like boat wakes (to much churning), skies (nice if you are lucky), dogs and cats (plenty in the internet), insects macros (plenty more still), occasional abstracts (shows lack of focus), obligatory wide angles and panorama (planning needed). Pictures posted for others to view (and endure) should at least be in focus and sharp (like the dog).

Having a theme would be useful, if your pictures is meant to be what visitors expect to see while in Ubin, it might be better to have titles like 'jetty to ubin' (instead picture of a construction crane), 'bike renting' (with pictures of kids adjusting helmets. Then there are sections like insect macros, quarry views.

Thats a lovely 10D you have. How about another trip this Sunday. I'll introduce you to somebody who knows the place very well. Ubin need people like you to tell others that its in danger of being overdeveloped.

Cant resist this. Since you asked. Referring to the pic of the van in the first pic, well, nice van. However, if you were trying to take anything else in that pic, then it didnt work. So, before snapping the pic, just think about what you want to shoot, imagine it first, then work out the technicalities involved - like exposure, f-stops, shutter speed, hi-lights and shadows, flash or no flash etc. Then, if the thing is still there, take the pic.

But if you dont succeed at first, try again.

hi magixshoe,

good attempt but I think you should give more thoughts before pressing the shutter. Like, think of the different angles, different focal lengths, to go nearer or further, or what you can include or exclude from the frame. Try out the possibilities, and you'll find something different.

now that u've taken such a big step from your uzi to the 10d, take more photos to justify this investment.

AndyHo indeed have an impressive gallery from ubin, he had spend 5 years? and tons of film documenting it.

me only spend 1 day (6 hours) there and i am unfamiliar with the place, need help from my frens who went with me to guide me thru the places (thanks to them)

if there is a chance i will go back there to give a 2nd shot


anyone find some of my shots not as sharp as the doggie picture?
wonder if its my tamron lens, the dog picture was taken using my fren's 70-200 F4L

sulhan: only managed to see the 1st few pictures, the others couldnt load and after refresh it was gone

tangoninazero: no luck, didnt see any boars around
anyway if the exif info wasnt there do u know its taken by what camera?

i dun see a diff. between shots on the web taken by different cameras

I am very much happy that you took the effort to go into Ubin and try it out there. I really hope you will gain new vision and insights into a place less appreciated by many.

I was there in Ubin also but I am not sure if I see you. If you are interested to see what I got today, visit my homepage again . To be very frank with you, I wasn't in much mood to shoot today but I pushed myself on.
