Tripod recommendations

Slik SDV-10 @ S$35.00

Was quoted the above model for use with Canon A70.

Anybody care to comment on the above tripod?

Is it suitable for Canon A70?

Invest in a tripod the same price of the camera will be enuff. Its for the long term run.

Isn't it abit too wasteful to get a tripod of about $500?

Haha.. I think its a little bit too much..
Considering a DSLR cost 2k + means must get tripod of 2k ?
How about getting a better and sturdy tripod in case in future when you need to upgrade, you don't have to change tripod again ?

Talking about price and tripods .... is it too overkill to use a Manfrotto 190 with a Canon G2? I like the stability and very good for small studio work .. but is it too much to carry such a large tripod with a relatively much smaller camera and walk around town for shoots?
