good n cheap   Good things NEVER come cheap & cheap things NEVER turn to be good too... No pain no gain... 1st of all,u have to see whether how heavy is ur gear... Overall body & lens of course. If u are using those BIG cannon prime lens liked those 300mm & above prime lens, apparently u will have to buy a strong & super stable tripod.Otherwise if u are merely using a wide angel lens for taking fireworks photo u need not use those heavy duty tripod.. Depends on case to case.. There is 1 saying in Chinese " kill a chicken don't need to use a bull knief"..:bsmilie:

hmm..prob wide angle n the most portraits lar...i not pro lar..for fun onli..dont need heavey duty one..wat brand good n wat type ar? tink i go for 2nd hands lar.....kill bull can use chicken knife also if yre good rite?hhee

try 330dx and maybe a manfrotto 486RC2, should total up less than $250. good combination enough to take on at least a 70-200 f2.8 lens (so far only tried that :embrass:)

hi & welcome 2 CS. u can try going down 2 well-stocked photography shops ard Peninsula w/ ur cam 2 audition tripods from CP, PPCP, etc.

brands like Benro, Slik, Manfrotto w/ price range of $100+ should b suitable as starters. likely u will upgrade 2 carbon fibre 1s in d future. ;p

just bought Slik 340DX from CP (Peninsula) $130, quite stable tripod

How heavy is your DSLR fully laden? From there buy a tripod which can take the load for your camera.

:D thanks bros for your recommendations! how heavy ar? think the body 600grams bah...n the most plus lens 1kg.... ok will look out for the brands listed...getting to love this site..get so many responses..hehe:lovegrin:

What DSLR/SLR are you goin to put it on the tripod...
what is yr heaviest setup?
will you upgrade yr current setup(Don't say NO too soon... because you never know:devil: )
next is to bring yr setup and try with the tripod.
last 2 things to consider are weight and $$$. :)

a cheap and good tripod for beginners would be something like a slik U6600. Only $50+ from Alan Photo

yah seems to be alot of pple using slik....lookin for 2nd hands deal if any..hehe THANKS!!:D

u bought Slik 340DX  330DX how much?

if can get Slik's DX ver, the U**** ver not worth it. its much less stable den d DX wanz...

Slik 330 or 340 is about 120-130 bucks.

difference is that 340 folds down smaller because its a 4-section tripod..which means you forgo a bit of stability. But for traveling I think its great.

As for 330 which I have. So far, it has performed to my expectation.

tltan
