I dunno what's your idea of "relatively light", but I'd recommend a Manfrotto 190 Pro or 190D. ~1.5kg excluding the head. It will be more than enough for your future DSLR (unless you are also thinking of using superteles like a 600/4 :) ).

thanx ;)

Try Cathay Photo and Alan Photo. It's around $155 for the Pro version, less for the D version at CP. The difference is that the Pro version lets you mount the centre column horizontally.

What's your height? I find the 190 rather short, and I'm 1.7m.

Try the 055pro. It sould be enough for you. ;)

Maybe u can try the Slik Able 300 DX. Available at AP for $110. Was recommended to me by CP as an cheaper alternative for the Manfrotto 190. Can support up to 3 kg of load. Comes with its own ball head. But ball head can be changed to Manfrotto 352 or 308 if u want. Very satisfied with it. No complaints.
