Hi, anyone know that singapore have any travel insurance company have provide travel insurance for our gear? Thanks for advise.

I am curious to know too. There is at least one travel policy I bought before that covers loss of personal effects, but IIRC it was capped at $1k per item up to max $3k-$5k. Not enough to completely cover the loss if sway sway lose my gear, but at least would have lessened the pain.

I did some research on this earlier as I got more and more equipment as time went by:bsmilie: - the short answer is 'no' :( as many travel insurance does exclude photographic equipment... you need to read the exclusions to check if this is the case for your specific travel insurance. Needless to say, no cover if used in the course of trade i.e. business. BTW this also applies even if you insure your gear as content for home insurance. :thumbsd: Will be happy if an insurer sees this as an opportunity & introduces something like this for us photographers...in the meantime, you can just  if you break or lose your gear!

I talked to one Insurance company months ago and they suggest to pay premiums for your equipment just like what you pay for Life Insurance. And that is thousands of dollars per year per equipment.

In general, a travel insurance will cover damage and lost of personal property and that include your camera. To make the claim you would need a police or some authority report and your original receipt. I forgot if your travel document is needed. Do note that the insurance company have a depreciation formula to determine the value to pay for the equipment. If it's a damaged equipment, do bring it back just in case they asked to see it. Check with your insurance agent who probably can give you more information.

I have also checked a couple of travel policies early this year and i read most of the fine print from some major insurance company... many cover loss of personal belongings and baggage about $500-800, some do not cover at all... some covers personal effects at a cap of $500-800 per items and laptop is a seperate thing about $600-1200... so if a person have their laptop and camera stolen they might get a payout of $1000 for laptop and $700 for camera (depend on policy)... Some laptop falls under personal effects... need to double check to double confirm with the company if camera can fall under personal effects, some can, some cannot....

I claimed before and the compensation is miserable. They deduct 10% depreciation for each year gone and another 10% if you cannot produce a receipt. Who keep receipts for their clothes and bag????? Thank God i did not lose my camera! Please be careful when you travel. :)

The best I can find is $1000 for camera ( this includes the lens )

most policies are $500 per item or set of items . The camera and lens is counted as one item

Has anybody found a solution that is better than this recently robbed photographer ?

Either don't travel with expensive gear, or don't travel with gear you can't afford to lose or replace. What to do.

If your camera and lens are itemized as separate items with its respective price, you can claim them as individual item. That was what I did for my D300 and 17-35mm lens.

That is interesting

This is the reply I got from aviva

A set of articles refers in general to:
- A collection of articles designed for use together, e.g. camera, camera lenses, tripod, wire to upload photos into the computer; or
- A collection, each member of which is adapted for a special use in a particular operation, e.g. camera, camera battery, SD card in the camera; or
- A group of things of similar nature, design or function.

Unfortunately, we do not offer itemised coverage.

Thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

Should you require further assistance, please contact our Customer Service Executives at 6827 9966. Our operating hours are from 8.45am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Alternatively, you may also drop us an email at personal_insurance@aviva.com.sg.

Chartis also has this clause

We will not be liable for more than $500, in respect of any one article or pair or set of
articles. The limit of liability for a Laptop Computer is $1,000 and only for one Laptop
Computer for every policy. A pair or set of items is treated as one item (e.g. a pair of
shoes, a camera and its standard accompanying lens and accessories

maybe an extra lens would be counted differently

You can still lose your camera in SG too. Just have to be careful and use common sense. :)

If common sense alone would suffice, TS and others would not have been robbed in Vietnam. The whole point is that for places like these where the criminals are getting more brazen, need to take extra precautions.

I heard that even if you cross sling your bag, they will still grab and drag you along the motorcycle until you free yourself from your bag!

Extra precaution like? Carry a tripod and whack? My friend was robbed in Brazil at gunpoint so tripod will be useless. They even took his shoes and clothes. He was left in his white t and boxer shorts! Sigh...... You are right! Just don't bring expensive cameras that you can't afford to lose, overseas. :)

Which part of Brazil was this? Was it in broad daylight or he happened to stray into a bad neighbourhood or quiet alley or something? Lucky he wasn't harmed.

Foz do Iguaçu. They were walking back to the hotel at night after watching a show. Yup, luckily his wife and him were not hurt and they never ask the wife for her clothes. She lost her wallet and watch. :)

Went with aviva previously then I switched to posb singapore travel insurance. Same underwriting on both sides, only cover to $500 per article. Haven't found a specialised plan just for equipment..:(

Have alot.Go ask you insurance agent for travel oversea with your camera gear. They'll advise you what to do.

I did claimed twice from Aceinsurance for my camera and lens. 1st time in South America, I made a police report to prove they have been stolen from me. 2nd time in India, my backpack has been lost by an african airline. I submit the receipt to the insurance company. They paid $300 for each of items (let us say one body 3 lens. I will get 1200 dollars).

Just to let you know I now have coverge from axa . It was an add to my home insurance .10k of cover with 2k per item limit
