The total lunar eclipse is visible just after sunset.

The eclipse sequence ( 10 Dec 2011 - Singapore Time) is as shown:

7.31 pm - Start of Penumbra Eclipse.
8.45 pm - Start of Umbra Partial Phase.
10.05 pm - Start of Total Eclipse.
10.31 pm - Maximum Eclipse.
10.57 pm - End of Total Eclipse.
12.18 am - End of Umbra Partial Eclipse.
1.31 am - End of Penumbra Eclipse.

TASOS will hold the Total Lunar Eclipse Observation at Labrador Park (at the Berlayer Beacon facing Sentosa). The observation will start from 7.45pm and end about midnight. TASOS will setup telescopes and binoculars for the eclipse observation. All are welcome.

who's interested?
btw,we need like 600mm or 1200mm??

I've seen people use a 300mm with a x1.4tc and up. Or mirror lens. Cheaper. No prob.

Any indication of interest who from here is going?

1. Bonrya
2.
3.
Etc?

Gonna to held at science centre...?

I would like to join this. Miss the last total lunar eclipse.

Hi Jason it will be at the labrador park as stated.

300mm would be just nice.

i'm going too but might not join the grp?
see 1st.
managed to rent the lens i want.hehehe

just a few more info that might be helpful:

on 10 Dec 11:
Moonrise Time : 6:48pm
Direction : East North East (67.5deg Azimuth)

and using LunaSolCal Mobile app to get the altitude of the moon (from horizon) at the following time (do correct me if any of the info is wrong), good to plan for location to shoot, also good for planning your composition if you are shooting timelapse:

(Altitude, Azimuth, Time)
9.8, 67.3, 7.31 pm - Start of Penumbra Eclipse.
26.1, 65.2, 8.45 pm - Start of Umbra Partial Phase.
43.3, 59.3, 10.05 pm - Start of Total Eclipse.
48.6, 55.9, 10.31 pm - Maximum Eclipse.
53.6, 51.4, 10.57 pm - End of Total Eclipse.
66.1, 24.9, 12.18 am - End of Umbra Partial Eclipse.
67.4, 343.1, 1.31 am - End of Penumbra Eclipse.

in short, you need to have an unblocked view of sky from East to North, from about 10deg to 70 deg up from horizon to see the whole lunar eclipse. :bsmilie::bsmilie:

just hope that we get a nice clear sky that evening!:angel:

I cant make it on the 10th as I got something on. I dont think a 300mm on FF suffice... tried on moon ... turn out still a small moon :(

I know. 300mm on a dx body.
That's y I went to rent a lens with a tc. :p

thanks for sharing!
shall head to vivocity to view it. (should be able right? since they are doing at labrador)

lol...
was about to post that site too.
ya..shooting zoom on 1 body n time lapse on another.

the moon is full on 10th dec , probelm is the weather must be friendly also...if its extremely cloudy or about to rain...the clouds will block the moon.

By the way , there is another separate group of astronomy hobbyists are heading to fullerton area just fyi,

Thanks for sharing. That location is indeed picture perfect. :)

Is there likely to be a nice full moon on 10 Dec?

total lunar eclipse can only occur on day with full moon, reason is because moon, earth and sun need to be aligned together, and that is only possible on day of full moon. :)
