2nd hand cam shd bring along a torch esp if u're a dark place.. shine the torch into the lens to see if got fungus or not. Then if u got laptop, bring it so that u can download the pics into the laptop to see if the cam and lens is clear and got lotsa dust problems or wat.

Buying 1st hand easier cos u got 7 days one to one exchange, depending on brand n shop of cse.

1) take the lense close to your eyes and inspect the lens elements, diaphragm, lens coating, focusing mechanism(focus ring)

2) point the lense to a nearby light source, check for flare and ghosts

3) check the diaphragm blades inside the lense.

4) check focusing screen, the mirror and if possible set to mirror lock up and test mirror comes down smoothly after MLU disabled.

5) check the eyepiece, the battery compartment and CF/SD card port or compartment.

6) check the tripod mount

7) check for any physical defects all around the camera and lense.
