how far is the stage to where you will be positioned?
ISO800 is almost a must.
If the stage is far and only moderately lit, then u will need a fast lens of 70-200mm f2.8 constant throughout.
Go and rent it if you intend to use it once in a lifetime for concert thingy.
Yikes, I think I'm too late to join in the discussion haha. I USE D60 with the kit lens TOO!
I took pictures for a solo voice recital at Lee Foundation Theatre last month. Actually I used ISO 400, and a shutterspeed of 1/15 at 55mm. Hmmm, surprisingly it's not blurred, but just that the edges are not sharp so needed photoshoppin. I considered using ISO 800, but I felt the grains were too visible because of the dark areas on the stage, and it allowed a speed of 1/20? not much diff =(
I used spot metering, and got the exposure from the singer's face instead of Matrix metering because the camera would underestimate the brightness due to the contrastin lighting. haha, care to share with me the settings you used and stuffs? Would like to learn more!
