Tiki Tour Help (in malaysia)

so me and my friend are planning to tour around malaysia for around about 3 weeks in mid-late july....thing is....i'm totally unfamiliar to the country and hes never been there in his life.....

soo any one could possibly help with some ideas as to where to go and how much (will be travelling and eating cheaply....hes a student)for say 3 weeks?rough estimate.

we are thinking of making our way up from jb all the way up to thailand possibly bangkok
