Hi All,

I have just bought a Canon EFS 55-250mm lens.
Everything seems great except that I find it pretty "tight"
In another words, it not as "resistenance-free" to zoom in/out, especially towards the 250 range.

As a comparison, my kit lens (18-55mm) is a lot smoother.

Is this normal?
Please help as I have no prior experience with zoom lens.

Thanks in advance!

I cannot tell how tight is tight, but the zoom should be reasonably smooth operating. Perhaps you can try to check with the shop or Canon if there is any problem. You did not happen to knock it right ?

Please help as I have no prior experience with zoom lens.

btw ur 18-55mm is also zoom lens ma, how come no prior experience with zoom lens :bsmilie:

Only way is to check with the shop. Or ask your friends who have the same lens.

Maybe there is not enough lubricant? never use a 55-250mm before, but sometimes new lens is abit tight!

Which shop did u get it?

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys!

Anyway, I went down to the shop again and check with the sales manager. According to him, that's how the lens is built and he open up another one for me to try. Well, it did feel the same and I believe that this is the case.

So I am a happy man again haha :D

tight is good!

loose will be prone to zoom creep

After a while it may loosen up and the creep will come in.
