yes, agree wholeheartedly.
photographers need to be specialise in certain fields.
I see many photography specialise in TFCD, and it is part of their services they are offering.

you should stick on playing the piano and guitar, at least you still can go busking when you are broke.
but you can't do that with photography, all people want is free photography services and there are so many photographers willing to shoot for free too.
photography only make you poorer.
1) There are people who specialize in pursuing a fulfilling hobby or art.
2) And people who specialize in photography as a business or job.
3) Also people who specialize in free photography for exposure and experience.
4) Also people who specialize in hiring people in (3)
The writer of the article is right that one should specialize, but that vision is not far enough for professionals. Professionals should think of how to exit photography and transcend to a next level. For today everyone is a photographer, tomorrow everyone will be a specialist-photographer. One step in front is not enough. But at least faster than (3), who are two steps behind.
The same goes to any other career or business. You need to specialise. The article also uses doctors as analogy. A specialist earns more than a GP. Even lawyers need to be specialized in one area in order to operate.

The problem is, I'm not good with anything.
Still trying and see which area sticks out, but so far seems all areas stuck.
It occurs to me to give it up, but I enjoy the process. Be it chasing dragonfly, looking at the clouds trying to predict good sunset, make funny face so my daughter would laugh for the shot, etc...

as hobbyist I shoot to enjoy, and I enjoy as much as I can even when I am not very good. The process as as much fun as the result.
in my other creative field (flower arranging), I arrange flowers to meet my clients' needs. 100% result oriented and sometimes I can't even enjoy it because of the very tight workload on weekends (work till 4am, "thon" in office for 2hrs till 6am, then off to delivery and touchup)
