The friends behind the YouTube channel Dumb Drum have released their latest low-budget recreation: a sweded shot-for-shot remake of the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer that’s both funny and surprisingly accurate on the details.
“Sweded films” are amateur shot-for-shot recreations of famous movies (or in this case, trailers). The term was coined in the 2008 film Be Kind Rewind, in which two video store employees try to replace their entire ruined VHS collection by re-shooting each movie with neither budget nor skill. Although this practice existed before 2008, the meme helped to create something of a movement, and Dumb Drum are a major player in that space.
The group doesn’t just create these re-makes for their YouTube channel, they also host an annual “Swede Fest” that’s all about screening Hollywood remakes that were created with “backyard budgets.”
Which brings us back to Star Wars. Given all of the hype around the soon-to-be-released follow-up to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Bryan Harley and his crew decided to make a sweded shot-for-shot remake of the latest trailer. There’s really no need to provide any more introduction than that…
