I remember the early days of CS. When having a Pro SLR let alone a DSLR was the biggest thing. You could count with your fingers and toes the nikon users that had even just one of the AFS (trinity???)lenses. And the no. of L glass users? About the same. In its short lifespan CS has certainly evolved. Granted DSLRs have become cheaper, but the price of a pro level one is still as high as before, yet the no. of users have grown tremendously. The prices of lenses has not dropped much, yet these days, you see almost every canon user with at least one L lens and almost every nikon user will get the 70-200VR eventually, skipping the 80-200ED completely. The 'class' of equipment offered on CS has also gone up tremendously. I remembered how it was hard to find proper SLR stuff cos most of the stuff on sale was for prosumer or consumer digicams. These days, i'm just waiting to see when someone will put up a digital medium format back. AFS lenses and L lenses pop up almost every day, and pro DSLRs every week at least.
Is not the general wealth of CSers increasing?

nono... i still haven't got my first L glass. just acquired a second-hand EOS 10D (now in for servicing)

S'pore is getting prosperous, and so are Snappers

You forget the real question.

Are the photos getting any better?

general prices of cameras has not dropped much. however, for the same amount of monies, one could get a lot more features and improved specifications.

one exception which i can think of is that the prices of memory cards has nosedived.

I think maybe the camera and lenses owned by ClubSnappers are more sophisticated and expensive, they are poorer in the pockets because of spending more money on buying than keeping them in their backpockets :sweatsm:

nope, the ability to rationalise cautious spending has weaken. :bsmilie:

spending wisely does not seem to be a strength among CSers.

spending $$$ on cameras is wiser than throwing $$$ at casinos.

Hmmm .... I certainly don't feel any richer ... but then I also have not bought any big ticket items this past one year (in relation to photography) apart from a couple of memory cards and some batteries.

I think that the general income level has risen since 2001/2002 (while equipment prices have remained stable or even dropped), thus more people are able to afford higher-end equipment (or have been lured into upgrading from basic level kit).

I would say yes. The photos coming from the professionals(paid) and the hobbyists are fast becoming indistinguishable here.

Even if a lousy photographer using a top-of-the-line camera, the pictures he take is still crap!
I knew one guy who is using a Leica MP to take pictures of finished plate of Char-Kway-Teow!!! Really dunno how to justify!
I would rather spend more time on reading on about photography technics and master it on field rather than spending many useless time keep buying and buying equipment.
