The future of wedding photography?

?? point being?

Camera phone is improving to a point that it is viable to consider it, if you don't print larger print and demand details at the same time.

It is Aesthetic over technical at the moment... but It is still technical + Aesthetic gives the edge at this present time.

Nah, did you actually read the article? It's hardly 'high-volume' at all. It's a special project on the sidelines of a humanitarian project.

How dare you expect people to fully read an article and comprehend what it means, instead of drawing an assumption by the first few sentences and making a mountain out of a molehill!

is kpt thread :)

Not to worry.
Only an experiment for fun.

Read in a photo magazine ling ago that Japanese studio wedding formal portraits (bride in ultra expensive kimono) are by default done using 8x10 large format cameras. Technical quality is beyond question. The wedding shoot cost a bomb.

In fact with the explosion of easy to use DSLRs and compacts in primary school childrens' hands, how do pros differentiate themselves?

By being the ultimate in technical quality and good composition. Use medium format digislrs with =>50MP backs or 8x10 inch format film cameras.

Do you really need expensive equipment to do a good job

Yes and No.

The question is how good are you? Your equipment is only as good as you. Pro specs equipment are expensive but a convenient tool for consistent result.
