The following is a series of unscientific, super simple tests I did on my newly acquired Nikon V1 with FT1.

Here's the setup scene (taken by the 10mm pancake, so 27mm equivalent):

Here are the zoom points:

First, Here are two of them according to my D7000 + Kenko 1.4x TC + Kenko 2x TC + Nikon 300mm f4:

Something wrong with this EXIF info... should be longer than that... 300mm x 1.4 x 2 x 2.7 = 2268mm. Not sure why the 2x info not captured.

Just got back from Sungei Buloh to test the rig...

Nikon V1 + Kenko 2x TC + 300mm f4 (1620mm equiv), ISO-800, f8, 1/500 sec:

Both the light and the birds were against me... sigh... even dropped one of the V1 lens cap into the river :mad2:

Hi Uncle Fei,
mind sharing, how's the focusing with your set up?
Understand the 300f4 hunts a lot under low light situation.
Thanks.

In this combo, the 300mm f4 is strictly manual focus.

I am acquiring a 55-300mm G. Hope it will do better. But in terms of straight IQ, when I get it right, the 300mm f4 no horse run. Even on the LCD it is visibly sharper than my "do it all" Tammy 18-270mm. But the 300f4 is quite an unforgiving lens, designed to be pampered by tripod since no VR. So far, none of my hand held shots with it worked.

Hi Uncle Fei,
thanks for the info...it is important whether to buy the FT1 or not (for me).
And yes, it has to be keep firm on a tripod, it doesn't work for me too (hand held)...lolz....
Nice of you for sharing...

Hi UncleFai... I have the Kenko 1.4x and 2x TC's as well. It seems once you stack them, the camera Exif info will only capture one of them. For some reason, the 1.4x TC info is captured and not the 2x TC... I did not try reversing the stack when I played with it mounted onto my D300. So you are not alone here. :)

I was looking at the V1 only today too. Hmmm... Post more as you find out. Really interesting and interested to give it a shot. :) Thanks in advance.

Here's another reason why the FT1 is a game changer (to me at least)...

V1 + FT1 + 105mm f2.8 Micro-Nikkor:

2.7x magnification, ISO-100, f4.8, 1/2sec. JPEG straight from cam, no PP.

J1 with 500mm + 2xTC. Setting 1/30s f/13.0 ISO200. After some PP.

2700mm reach! Wow! So cool!

Did anyone try shooting the moon? Will be interesting to see how much detail this setup can capture.
