The best is to go for the original made of the lens brand, as some may not fit.. you'll need to check the TC for compatibility and best if you could bring along the lens that you want fited when you go hunting for it.
For the AF 80-200mm, which I'm presuming is from Nikon, look for the TC20EII which will give you an extension of 2x and set you back for 2stops or TC1.4EII giveing you approx 1.4 times extension and 1.5stop slower

Just need to know for what mount only. No need to test with lens. I never had any problem before with any TC. As long as you know which mount you want then it's ok. Of course if you can test it would be better.
