Hi all,
am currently considering to get either one of the lens...

I guess most owners would definitely have considered the same question...
like to hear current users and owners why they prefer one over the other...

also, any tamron showroom to test this lens other than at the retail shops?

thanks
:)

If you need to ask, take the tamron!

I owe it. And I am not trying to be funny.

The VC comes in very handy, when you are tired, or in cold weather, as in winter.. as least for me.

If about same price - then it will be be decision headache for me also - purely because of Nikon name...

I own the tamron and i think for its price pt, u cant have much complain abt it. It is definitely a capable lens and with the VC, it works miracle at times.

I dun own the Nikon but I heard that the Nikon AF faster than the Tamron.

Had a 1 to 1 compare with VC vs Nano side by side with my friend .

Good Light - Different is min - 100% view (Nikon is just a little , just a little bit , sharper)
Bad light - Tamron win hand down due to the VC . Imagine shooting 1/10 at 70mm focal length . VC does help a lot .

Price while Tamron is a very value for money I will say . 1.5k vs 2.5k
Focus speed - Nikon win a little bit (without VC) - With VC on for tamron , it is even more slower as we need to wait for the VC to kick in .

However I find that at 24mm Tamron tend to be wider and at 70mm Nikon seem to be tighter . Tamron look like a 22-65mm to me instead of a 24-70 (just my own experience)

Overall , I love my Tamron 24-70 VC :)

When my 24-85 died after a fall onto a hard ground, beyond economical repair(was told), blades came off ... etc. I was deciding between the 2 as well.

The Tamron was lighter, cheaper and has VR. I bought the Nikon instead. Reason:

- Nikon has better built quality. I have dropped cameras and am accident prone, and has come to appreciate sturdy build quality.
- In my Nikon D600, the Tamron rendition of red colour irritates me
- Most of my subjects are moving, having VR doesn't help much.

Repair cost of this nikon lens is ridiculously high and usually almost not worth it. Common problems like stiff barrel/zoom etc may require full replacement and not simple fix..and thats without dropping etc.

Its probably the construction..perhaps Fatigue can share..

My next purchase will not be nikon..

I thought the stiff barrel problem affects only early copies.

Will be interesting if Sigma also produce an ART line for this focal length for nikon.
