18-250 is made by Sigma, tamron only have the 18-270 if i'm not wrong.

Actually you missed one. There are actually:

18-200, 18-250, 18-270 VC and 18-270 PZD VC.

The 18-250 have been discontinued. The one with the best IQ is the newest 18-270 PZD VC.

i would say it's a replacement, with different design (I'm not a optic engineer, I'm not very sure abt this, just wild guess). Like nikon 18-200mm with 2 versions, and the various 70-200mm from nikon, canon or sigma.

They also have a 70-300 which is quite popular..although i think the 18-270 is by far the most versatile travel lens money can buy :)

Oh wow, why did they make a 18-250 then a 18-270? For marketing purpose?

18-270 VC replaced 18-250. Reasons I cannot tell you, because I do not work in Tamron. But I think one of the factors must be the stiff competition from original brands as well as companies like Sigma making the same lenses. So add VC, add 20mm.
