hi..

newbie here. like to ask if Tamron (CanonMount) AF55-200mm F/4-5.6 LD is a good lens to get for beginner?

it would be better if you mention what you shoot normally. eg. people, animals, insects, scenery..

sorry. shoot more of people and scenery.

wont be good for scenery as its not wide angle lens.

agree.

for scenery shots, you'll need the standard 18-55 IS kit lens. or if you want an even wider angle, go for the canon 10-22mm.

for starters, kit lens would be good enough.. guess $800-900 to fork out for a wide angle lens is abit too much.

if you're looking at the ~50-200mm range, canon has a ef-s 55-250mm IS. as do sigma with their 55-200mm which although is a designated DC lens, can be used on full frame cameras without 'vignetting'. based on comparison reviews, the sigma 55-200mm is sharper than its tamron counterpart.

55-200 will be for mostly close-ups and marcro shooting. not good for close up night shots if you dont have a tripod as tamron 55-200 has no IS

thanks for the help. will do more reseach.

You may not have many keepers in low light for this lens.
