their Military government are not even issuing landing visa for international communities who are ready to fly in with their tons and tons of aids .All FOC.

Donating money/funds , imho , will help only their top brass in their already very lavish living.

They do let in many Asian relief agencies, but not the western ones or directly from Western governments........Red Cross is already inside, as well as Medicins sans Frontiers

Singapore Polytechnic is helping out in this, had a group of students march into my lecture hall bearing an official letter to solicitate for donations during lessons!

I think the government is smart enough to pledge money in terms of food, water, clothing and supplies instead of cash which would go down the general's pockets. The SAF should fly a few more guys down to ensure that the supplies do get to their intended targets.

Yes, but I read that the Singapore government donates to one of Burma's Ministries.......there is a chance it may not go to the people who needs it most.

Better to donate to these below + Mercy Relief or SOKA (these two work together), as they are already inside the country and they will buy food and supplies with the donated cash:

I want to do my part to help like everyone else did and have donated money with the Red Cross but as the news comes in everyday about the political situation there with the bloody Junta Army, I am very concern about the fact that till today...I have heard many supposed Asia organisations has gotten in or sending in aid.

Yesterday the news was that some french organisation got in from Europe side. ( they not allow alot of western countries to get involve) Then we heard about how, goods sent there are taken by the Junta for their own use and none of what were sent by other Asian countries did reached the people or region that needs it most. And again today the news is as follow:

Myanmar junta distributes foreign aid - with generals' names
YANGON (Myanmar) - MYANMAR'S military regime distributed international aid Saturday but plastered the boxes with names of top generals in an apparent effort to turn the relief effort for last week's devastating cyclone into a propaganda exercise.
The United Nations sent in three more planes and several trucks loaded with aid even though the junta took over its first two shipments. The government agreed to let a US cargo plane bring in supplies on Monday, but foreign disaster experts were still being barred entry.

State-run television continuously ran images of top generals - including the junta leader, Senior Gen. Than Shwe - handing out boxes of aid to survivors at elaborate ceremonies.

One box bore the name of Lt Gen Myint Swe, a rising star in the government hierarchy, in bold letters that overshadowed a smaller label reading: 'Aid from the Kingdom of Thailand.'

'We have already seen regional commanders putting their names on the side of aid shipments from Asia, saying this was gift from them and then distributing it in their region,' said Mr Mark Farmaner, director of Burma Campaign UK, which campaigns for human rights and democracy in the country.

'It is not going to areas where it is most in need,' he said in London.

My concern is this....what the Junta General are doing now with goods we sent over. ANd they are using this aids to give to people they can get to vote for them in the election. How about the money? Even if the Salvation Army or Red Cross...eg sent money in, will this be received by their counterpart in there if they are in there and all ready to help without being held up by the Junta from doing so?

Also...if charity organisatio get the money in Myanmar...with the situation as bad as it is...food or anything essential is already scare, roads to storm hit places are inaccessible....so even with money how are they going to buy items that is already scare by now or sent it to those place that really need them?

Now I gave some money and I would not mind giving more or help in some other way but I don't want to end up helping those bloody Junta general with their own agenda.

Alot of stuff are already getting in....problem is..they are getting out to the people and at what pace are the Junta army doing so.

As heart aching as this is to be in Singapore and not able to do anything, I don't want to end up helping the enemy suppress their people further beyond this natural calamity.

Should we jump in to help ...yes we should..but we need to be sure the items or funds we are collecting are able to get to where it really will do good and not end up being tools of promoting other agenda then help those really badly stricken folks there.

- 100% of your donations will be sent to the The Salvation Army in Myanmar to help victims of Cyclone Nargis.

as The Salvation Army is already there in Myanmar, we see little problems of the funds not going through.

instead of harping over things we can't change, let others who have the power to overthrow the tyrants worry about that. If we don't donate, the people lower down don't even get anything. If we don't help, everyone don't help, who will help?

Ya I know what you and Ortega meant. It was a knee jerk reaction that I went to donate when I see how badly things are for these folks in Myanmar but as the days goes by you just hope you are doing right by those people and that what you contribute will get to the right folks.

That is NOT to say we should not try to do what we can to collect as much goodwill and contribution from all those who can and care to do so. We just have to hope that it does reach as many people as it could. I am all for the idea of the PhotAid. I am not trying to put a wet blanket on these. I did what I could with the Tsunami and if I could contribute more in some way to this activity it would be the right thing to do. Just something to keep in mind and I am just speaking out as I am sure there will be lots who will feel this way and this might be the hinderen for them to come forth to help or contribute.

Let's do what we can as humanly possible to help the less fortunate ones lah.
