1. In what area is critique to be sought?
Any comment is welcome; but in particular the color and the composition

2. What one hopes to achieve with the piece of work?
the show the vibrant color of sunrise and also the cloud/fog.

3. Under what circumstance is the picture taken? (physical conditions/emotions)
This photo was taken at 6:30 am, at 4090m above sea level.

4. What the critique seeker personally thinks of the picture
i felt it was quite an unexpected surprise, especially with flare :)

IMO, the composition could be improved.
The flare is nice, but the colour of the mountain has become unclear due to the strong light. Maybe a filter could help?

Also, it should be "Gunung Kinabalu" or "Mount Kinabalu" near Kota Kinabalu :)

Looks like the early hike was worth it!

* The tilted horizon could be straightened
* Can't tell that it's sunrise as the sun is overly blown out. Looks more midday. Would suggest metering off the sky.
* Sometimes less is more.

Thanks for sharing!

i find that my attention is being pull in 2 seperate directions, the rock formation on the left and the sun on the right, than middle suddenly empty. not a good composition imho.

maybe if crop into pano may look better, eg crop away the bottom until the top pointy edge of the rock formation on the left?

Hmmm.... My only problem would be the tilted pic.
Would be a whole lot better if it were parallel to the horizon...

As mentioned sun glare and rock foreground does little for the photo.
one may be tempted by the novelty of lensflare and sunstar.

I dunno if you saw that you might have better shot opportunities here.
take 10 side steps to the right, rotate view anticlockwise by 20 degrees(just enough to keep rocks outside frame), use the fluffy clouds as foreground interest and the soft undulating mountain outline with sky as backdrop. no sunglare, no rock formation.

of course if you were super hardworking, 0600hr would have been beautiful light.
but hey, pat on the back for being more hardworking than most. at 4000m above sea level :)

i think this is very nice! been there myself, i know how tiring it is when you reach the summit, and at 4090m, it is so cold that sometimes it is so hard to even press a button.:bsmilie::bsmilie:

and ya, it should be Mount Kinabalu. :)

Dear all,
Thank you very much for all your c&c :)

cheers,
