You seem to be focusing "behind" the sunflowers, as they looked really out of focus.

The above 2 pics just show us what the sunlight can do to the subjects...the second looks more striking to me

Actually, the pics were taken 1 week apart but at the same time of the day. Notice that the petals in the 2nd pic is actually longer and that the flower at the back in the 1st pic has not blossomed yet.

And then the sunlight also made the camera uses narrower f-stop in the 2nd pic...

U should give better bokeh to the background (less DOF), as it is distracting...and why not shoot the sunflower directly (not from side)? Just me...
