Sun glaring problem

Try to take some photos recently but due to the extreme sunlight nowsaday, some shoots have a glaring effect.
How to reduce this glaring problem? ND filter? Smaller aperture??
or any other way???
Pls enlighten me:)

three ways I can think of:

1) use a lens hood, may not prevent flare completely

2) shoot away from the sun!

3) shoot at a time when the sun isn't at a strong overhead

Use a polarised lens to reduce the reflection/glare from the object which is caused by the sun.

one more...

creatively hide the sun behind something (tree, building, lamppost) if you must compose with the sun in the picture
