Suggest 50mm Portrait Lens NIKON D7000

HI All

I have Nikon D7000 and i wanted to buy AF 50mm f1.8 or f1.4 portrait lens

can anyone suggest, if i use AF 50mm f1.8 or 50mm f1.4, does it impacts my camera anything.?

please share your experience

if you're on a budget, you should get a 50mm f/1.8. f/1.8g or d doesnt matter because your d7000 body has an integrated autofocus motor. you can get the f/1.8d under $150 easily at the buy and sell section. its a great starter cos of its good price (you can buy it easily for trying out and keep it if you like it). once you're sure of what you like, then get it.

however, if you can spare more money, of course getting the f/1.4 would be better, more dramatic blur, and the bokeh should be nicer. i have no experience with f/1.4 lenses though, they're too expensive for me.

Here are the various 50mm lenses that are commercially available today ranked in accordance to my preference:

1. Sigma AF 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM
2. Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4G
3. Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G
4. Nikon AF 50mm f/1.4D
5. Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8D

Actually, I won't bother with the 50mm f/1.8D... Never favored it, although I acknowledge that it does has its fans, many in CS too...

There are plenty of other options too....

Unless you shoot it wide open at f/1.4 or you need the extra sharpness, f/1.8 would be sufficient.

Well ranked. The Sigma is... phenomenal. However, a with all Sigma lenses, testing for a good sample is a must.
 

Agreed. Somehow Sigma makes really fantastic primes. +1 vote
 

if you dont mind manual focus, try voiglander's 58mm f1.4.. it has overtaken all 50mms that i've tried.. including that of zeiss..

I second that. The quality of the optics is top notch.

How much? Bokeh quite creamy
 

58mm on a cropped sensor also gives about 85mm eqv which is really sweet; way better than 50 on dx. i find it doesnt seem as nice on full frame though. i have the 1st version nikon 5.8cm f/1.4 and was fantastic on the d200, but hardly ever use it now. on the topic of manual focus, the 50 f2 pre ai is a fantastic performer. i use the Nikkor S version in conjunction with my 50 1.2 ais and cz 45 2.8 depending on the feel i want to reproduce.

from testing one sample, the Sigma 50 1.4 has terrible LOCA and purple fringing wide open with low contrast too.. perhaps is was a bad copy so you ll want to be careful to choose a good one

btw, 50 1.2 and 1.4 AIS is also still in production =P

My copy of the Sigma 50/1.4 performs great bro. Fringing is very low, and very contrasty. Much much better in purple fringing than my old 50/1.4D. BTW mine is the new version with the new exterior (smooth plastic)

Low ISO (400 I think), aperture wide open at F1.4, focus and spot metering on the eye of the priest. Challenging back light. Shot on D700.
