Success With Integrity

The world is filled with people who make lots of money in questionable ways - drug dealers, con artists, dishonest business men, corrupt politicians, and so on. If you measure success simply by how much money you make, then you must realize that people who accumulate riches in a dishonest manner lack something that is the true mark of success - character and integrity.

No amount of wealth can compensate for a lack of character. Character equals integrity and integrity means you always do what is right - even when no one is watching you. It means that fear and guilt have no power over you because you have nothing to hide.

Think about it. Have you ever been tempted to shortcut your way to the top of the corporate ladder? Reaching this goal is a wonderful achievement, but take a look around you. Are the hallways in your office building stacked high with the bodies of people you stepped on in order to get there? If so, be prepared to get stepped on in return.

Do you routinely treat people with honesty and respect? Or do you have a short temper when it comes to dealing with people who refuse to bow down to your wishes? The person with character and integrity will never have to worry about this because they know that no one achieves success single-handedly. Whether it's success in the business world or sports or family life, someone was probably there to offer a helping hand somewhere along the way. The person with character and integrity will know and appreciate this and offer the same helping hand when the opportunity arises.

Celebrated portrait photographer, Yousuf Karsh, was famous for shooting celebrities and world leaders, and he said, "I have found that great people do have in common an immense belief in themselves and their mission. They also have great determination as well as an ability to work hard. At the crucial moment of decision, they draw upon their accumulated wisdom. Above all, they have integrity."

It is important that you take a good look at your attitude regarding what success means to you. Albert Einstein said, "Weakness of attitude becomes weakness of character."

Character is what you are. Success is what you achieve. What you achieve can be large or small, but success without character and integrity is merely a shadow. Your character is the key to success and it is the attribute you will pass on to your children. So let your strength of character shine through in all you do and say and you will truly be able to achieve meaningful success in life.

You have 56 posts, and the great majority of your posts are on non-photography subjects.....

 Good read.

 But in this materialistic world, not many people can climb up the corp ladder without stepping on others isn't it :dunno:

No offence taken.

I know this is Kopitiam. I am here long enough. Much much longer than you. We all write and contribute to kopitiam. Quite fun really, sometimes.

But in a photography forum, it seems very strange that one should write more on non-photography subjects than on photography.

No problem. To me, I have gathered quite a lot of info with just reading from here, as most of newbies have asked questions that I wanted to asked as well. So you can say I am a "lurker" in this forum? :)

I have done some shoots for my own "training" purposes. But have no time to get my personal PC repaired yet, so the photos are still in my camera. I am using company laptop to access, so not so convenient to keep my personal stuff like photos in company laptop.

Dun worry, will definitely be posting some of these shoots for critques once I get it into operational status. :)

It is fine to be a lurker. I am a "lurker" in photo.net and largeformatphotography.info. Occasionaly I contribute. (But always on photography subjects!).

As you mentioned, one can learn a lot by reading and following discussions.

One do not have to contribute by showing images. One may not even contribute anything on photography.

Just that it is strange that when you do contribute, it is MOSTLY "Materia Non Photographica"

student, pls rest the case.
he doesnt post anything offensive. u can choose not to read the thread.

I think need to add in humble too..:bsmilie: :bsmilie:

Don't flame me i am new too..:p

Unfortunately in this real world. integrity and honesty doesn't always pay off. Most successful people have made it to the top via methods that might not be always very agreeable but as they say survival of the fittest. Being nice is sometimes seen as weakness.

I have seen it personally.... ruthless people who kill to get to the top but they are very good with PR so in the end... they are touted as people with integrity..... cos they know how to mask their tracks well.... and throw the blame to others.

A person who practices integrity is concern about how they climb. The views along their climb is beautiful all along the right path. He helps those fellow climbers to enjoy their climb.

A person who climbs without integrity as a partner thinks that the view at the top should be the most beautiful. So he has no qualms about destroying people obstructing his way. Upon reaching the top, he realised that he has climbed up a rubbish heap.

Titles and wealth are mammon gods that chain the unwary. Opening up our eyes to see them properly will help us to live richly. Avoid these garbages that the world may find 'precious' and attractive to acquire.

I had already rest the case. Please do not read my post if you do not wish to. I was communicating to him. Not you.

If you cannot understand the principle of what I wrote, it is your problem.

I am still a newbie, so nothing much of useful info I can contribute for now. I am at "absorbing stage", to learn from all the people. My intention of posting images, again, is to learn thru comments from experienced people like you.:)

Its just that I happened to read these meaningful articles, which I thought it will be nice to share with you guys and gals here. But I am posting these non-photography related topics on kopitiam section.

A forum by nature maybe a photographic, automobile, IT, etc, but it doesnt mean we have to keep relating around the same topics by its nature. Apart from informative purposes, we are all here to interact and socialise as well.

Take no offence here, but if no interaction in a forum, it will be quite dead, and no one will come in to read, since everyday will be the same old topics. and soon, we will see lesser and lesser members coming in, and there is no point of contribution, since no one reads the forum anymore.;)

Thanks dolpjki, appreicate your comments.

Any topics can be a flame bait, and can spark off a flame war anytime. Lets have tolerance for each other. The real world is already stressful enough. Lets not make this forum, or I called it the E-World another stress place. In fact, it should be a place for all of us to de-stress. ;)

Dun worry about me, I am not offended by Student's comments. I think everyone has a freedom to post whatever they want, so he has the right to read and to comment on my post. Similarly, I also have the right to post whatever information I like. (provided its not offensive to others) ;)
