How to shoot a subject wif background blurred? Need some sort of lens?:dunno:

Need as low an aperture number you can get.

Or you can try panning. Move the cam along with a moving subject.

You mean bokeh? Use big aperture like f2.8 and above & take note of the distance between the subject & the background. Do a search and you can get more details.

you mean shallow Depth of field?

to get shallow dof you need

• longer focal lenght
• bigger aperture (smaller f number)
• shorter camera to subject distance
• longer subject to bg distance

bokeh is the quality of blur and not the actual blur

simple term, put subject between minimum focusing distance and infinity *not on infinity* then shoot with the widest aperture.

the nearer the subject towards the minimum focusing distance will render background blurer, if subject nearer to infinity will render background sharper.

Den in lens wise? Means that i hav to get 50mm lens with f/1.4... 1 Noob question 50mm F/1.4 got no zoom rite ?

#1, 50mm, is a fixed focal lens, not zoom (vari-focal lens).
#2, you can get a nice blur b/g (shallow Depth of field) with kit lens also, as long you get close enough with you subject, with a bigger aperture setting.
#3, if you want to shoot a full length portraits with blur b/g (shallow Depth of field), you need a longer focal length lens with bigger aperture setting.
#4, basically all big aperture lenses perform well while shooting wide open, but this does not mean you can't shoot nice portraits with consumer grade/ low range (zoom) lenses

No need f1.4

f2 also can get bokeh... heck I get bokeh even with f8 (although at a distance of course)

It depends on how far your bg from your subject. The further the bg, the more blur it gets. Of cuz, aperture play a big role too. The f/2.8 definitely get blurrer bg compare to f/5. Focal length also. 200mm can definitely gets blurrer bg compare to 50mm. Below is a great DOF video to learn.

Video of Depth of Field

:D.. a ( Nikon ) DC lens can also give u a nice bg blur with varying control
( again dependent on the distance betw subject and bg )

Many lenses from Nikon produced good bokeh (that I know):
Nikon AF 85mm f/1.4D IF
Nikon AF DC 105mm f/2D
Nikon AF DC 135mm f/2D
Nikon AF-S VR 200mm f/2G IF-ED
Nikon AF 50mm f/1.4D
Nikon AF-S VR 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED
Nikon AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8 IF-ED
Nikon AF 80-200mm f/2.8D
Nikon AF-S 28-70mm f/2.8D IF-ED

Haha...oic...lidat la.....i use canon 400d ;p....yesterday bought a 50mm f/1.8 and a 16-35mm f/2.8L USM...hehe...i got 1 photography kaki told me 50mm f/1.8 quite slow reacting lens and need to be careful wif the angle shots u take..is that true?

When you compare the 50mm f/1.8 to the 16-35mm f/2.8L USM, the 50mm f/1.8 will definitely focus slower. But if you compare the 50mm f/1.8 to other consumer lenses or 3rd party lenses, it is definitely not a slouch.

As for being careful with the angle, I don't really get it. But with photography, I would suggest that you experiment with all the various angle, be more creative.

bro, you left out the good old

Nikon AF-S DX 17-55mm f/2.8G IF-ED

Since you got 50mm f1.8. Try it with 1/2 body portrait against a distance background at largest aperture f1.8, you should get what you want.

does 70-200 produce good bokeh? i dun feel so...

These few lenses from Canon produced good bokeh (that I know):
EF 35mm f/1.4L USM
EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM
EF 85mm f/1.2L I USM
EF 135mm f/2L USM

There may be more lenses from Canon that produced good bokeh as well.
