Hi,

I know its dumb for me to ask this question in this forum but just to make sure that I make no mistake in taking good care of my new girlfriend, Canon 400D. My question is can I leave my battery in the camera and keep in the dry box or dry cabinet? Will it damage the camera? Do I need to remove the battery if stored for a long period of time, perhaps max 1 year or so? Thanks.

Regards,

pls take them out... once batteries discharge fully and is still connected in some circuit, it may over-discharge and leak... this is esp true with alkalines... nowadays the batteries come with protection against over-discharging, but don't rely on them too often... 1 yr is really long u know?

I use my DSLR every weekend so the battery stays inside the cam. If lets say more than a mth, remove all batts.

Then why would you leave your batteries inside your cam?
If you're going to Aust, why not just bring along? If not what, buy already, put in cold storage for 3 years only for use during holidays, by that time got new stuff so you get rid of your 400 and get a new cam. A bit no point right. So bring it along!

Definitely.

Aust is also a very photogenic place with lots of opportunities. If Singapore so small land area can see nice photos, what about Aust? Or anywhere else. In fact, what am I talking about. You can shoot anytime, anywhere, if you want to.

I do agree. my friends who own DSLR Camera have asked me that if I do not want to bring the camera there, ask me dont buy first and Wait till I save up all the money about $3000 then buy it....coz currently I have no money to buy dry cabinet, Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro, Canon 430EX and Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 DC.

But its all my fault....cannot resist the temptation in the IT SHOW

Get house and contents insurance over there. If it gets stolen, they'll replace it with a new one.

It's only a $1.7k thingy no need insurance la.
After 6mths when Canon comes out with 20mpix cams, it'll be worthless. After 1 yr, it'll be a dino. So, use it la.

For body, leave the batt there.

For flash, must remove.

But if you are leaving it around, perhaps safer to remove the batt.

Anyway its really a dumb idea to keep it untouched a year.

Come back a year later, you will find a newer model and that ur 400D selling for half of what you bought here 2nd hand

And please.. 400D alr one of the cheapest DSLR, bring it along with you and work it.

Its an irony 400D users protect their cam like anything, while the 1D/1Ds i saw all look war torn..
