so you are saying $35-40 for 15 minutes min of shooting? $70-80 for only 1/2 an hour and if we want two different slots such as 1 and 4 then we have to wait? so it could end up being waiting 4-5 hours for just for just 1/2 and hour of shots? example, shoot for 15 minutes at 10:15 then not shoot again until 15:15 for only another 15 minutes? am i understanding your concept correctly?

Yes Hawaiisg. Let me explain the pricing.

It is 1:1 - dedicated shooting. No one else gets the exact same picture because YOU direct the flow. 1:1 is the most expensive way to shoot, but some photographers prefer it to mass orgy style and think it is worth it because of the independence and control they get.

Of course, to cut down costs, you can always share your slot with a friend or two. If you shoot with a friend, the cost is immediately halved.

I know it seems like you are getting an awfully small amount of shooting time at a high cost, but let's put it this way - for a mass orgy studio shoot, you squeeze with 4-7 other photographers and share 3 hours (which isn't even full shooting time because it includes setup time, change of outfit, etc), and you pay anywhere from $80-150 for photos that could be very similar to other photographers'.

Let's see what goes into the $35-40 (or $30-35 for regulars) that you pay for a 15-minute slot:

Model fee
Studio rental fee
Makeup artist fee

I really don't think this is a bad deal at all but everyone is entitled to differ. :)

Also, with regard to waiting time, the photographers are not required to wait in the studio. The studio location is very central and convenient, with excellent food and shopping in the area. If there is a lot of time between slots, a photographer can choose to go for lunch, or run other errands. He can also choose to stay to observe other photographers in action and pick up some tips or ideas for his next slot. :)

Final word about slots and waiting time:

I have organised studio shoots where photographers pay $80 for three hours and shoot three different concepts, at a 2:1 ratio and they get 20 mins every hour. It gives them a total of 60 mins shooting time, but with a partner, and if they prefer to shoot alone, they get 10 mins per hour (30 mins total).

In that kind of situation, the fee covers all three concepts. The photographer may be interested in shooting only one or two of the concepts, but has to pay the entire sum for the three concepts because it comes as a package. He will end up "wasting" more time because he has to stay for the entire shoot, instead of only for the concepts that he is interested in. He also ends up paying for concepts that he does not really want to shoot.

That is why I am now trying to offer photographers more choice and autonomy. It actually works out to be even cheaper - $70 for 30 mins of 1:1 shooting, of concepts that they CHOOSE, and without wasting time.

I can understand the concerns of the photographer. Normally in commercial shoots, it will take some time to setup the lights/adjust lights/pose models/check expression/outfit/makeup/hair, in order to achieve the feel/mood/look that is required by the clients. Considering that there are many assistants, fashion stylists, makeup/hair and other crew members around and it still take 10-15 mins to get the shots needed, its not surprising they are a little bit worried. If they are not familiar with studio shooting and only work alone, its even a more challenging task for them.

Perhaps it will be reassuring if there are some experts around who can help to adjust the lights, pose the model and generally help and guide the fresh photographers. Hope this will help allay the fear of shooting in a reduced time slots. Its a fantastic idea nevertheless.

Points noted, thanks Buck for the contribution. :)

All the lights will be set up at the start of the shoot. It is up to the photographer if he wishes to move the lights or to utilize some or all of them. This is how my past studio shoots have worked, and no problems there - working in a 2:1 ratio, the photographers manage to get 10-20 decent shots (we're not talking continuous click shutter here) on average for each 20min slot. I haven't seen anyone get stuck yet, and the photographers who participate in my shoot are not always professional - plenty are relatively new to studio photography. What is most important is that photographers know exactly what they want from a shoot, and then they won't be at a loss during the shoot itself.

Here I am speaking like I'm some expert but I think I'd better make a disclaimer - I'm not a photographer, so I won't say I know best. It's just what I've observed based on my experience as a shoot organiser! :)

And do keep the suggestions/advice coming so I know how to improve!

Do agreed as what the organiser's comments....sometimes we need to be objective orientated on shooting. Planning always a must, so that a shoot can carry out more efficiently. :)

PLEASE NOTE THAT SOME CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE!

1. There will only be one model for the shoot - Portia. Very experienced, very versatile, and an absolute natural in front of the camera.
2. Each slot is now 20 mins. The fee for each slot is $45 for new participants, $40 for repeat participants. You may share this slot with up to 2 other friends, as the studio has wire light triggers as well as infrared. (sorry if I got the terms wrong! hope you know what I mean...) If you find the fee steep, please do shoot with a friend or two! It reduces cost drastically, and you can book more slots as well with the same budget.
3. You can bring any of your own props along to carry out your own concepts. The studio itself has white boxes, an interesting graphic cluttered background at one side, a white sofa, and a black leather sofa should you wish to use them in your shoot.
4. There will be two designed concepts for the shoot: 1A-1D are Out of Bed, 4A-4D are The Big White Shirt.
