Sticking Aperture Blades

Found the aperture of one of my lenses sticking. It has what looks like *oil?* on the blades, and takes forever to settle at the correct f-stop. Don't recall this ever happening to me before.

Any idea why this happens? Where would be a good shop to go to get it cleaned, and approximate cost?

The AF35 f/2D is well known for such issue. Normally ppl called it 'oil leak'. However newer batches seems to have correct this prob.

Frankly speaking, this is the first time I heard of such issue happen to the AF28mm f/2.8D also. Looks like you need to send back to NSC for servicing.

Such issues will only require general servicing @$65, I think.
Can call NSC n ask...

I owned both AFD 28mm f2.8 and the AFD 35mm f2. Both have "oily" aperture issue.
Sent my AFD 35mm for general lens service at NSC and was charged $70

when did you buy your 35/2? read at a few websites (including bythom) that apparently the 35/2 sticky blade issue was acknowledged and corrected by nikon.

The oily 25mm diaphragm issue seems to have been resolved a while ago, I don't think it is a big problem anymore on newer batches.

the other camera shops might quote a lower price compared to NSC if u find it steep

Bought from another CSer. I guess my 35mm f2 was from the older batch...

Fixing this kind of lenses are very tricky. Don't DIY if you're not sure.
