I thought I would share this useful information posted by swami1959 from HWZ.
The TS gave a review on how to differentiate between the real and fake SD cards and CF cards.

We need to be more prudent when buying our next memory card, if you don't wish to risk losing all your precious images when on the move.

The real and fake cards looks soooo alike. It seems like it is hard to tell the difference unless you remove it from its packaging. Any tell-tale signs of a fake card on the packaging?

The fake cards shown is just one example of how a fake card might look like. There may be other fake cards which look different. As with most fake things, they usually have less than perfect alignment as far as labels, printing, etc goes. The colours may also look more faded (due to poor copying). Sometimes, there are typos as well.
The best way to avoid fakes is to buy from reputable shops. For Sandisk, check that it also has the Convergent sticker. If a well-known shop is found to sell fake cards, you can be sure the whole SG will know about it from the internet.
If you buy from an individual who whispers to you "Psssst, hey, wanna buy cheap CF cards ?", then you have to bear more risk.
