Hey all. Recently ive noticed that theres a small black dot some where around the top of my pictures. I checked my lens my filter and my camera. I dun see any dirt or what. Cld it be a paint peel in my lens which i cant see. Im using S5pro and tamron 17-50. Any idea or suggestions on how i cld chk whats causing the black dot.

It is probably sensor dust. Give your sensor a good blow and see if it gets cleared.
to test for sensor dust, set your aperture to the smallest. take a photo and keep shaking your camera. you will see an overly exposure picture. if you see spots on the picture, it must be dust on the sensor. in which case you need to send it for servicing.
Hi I just notice my Mrs' 550D has a spot at a fix location in the picture. Cannot be lens as we change lens it it is still there. Is there a way for me to inspect clearly as i cant seem to see anything on the glass/mirror after removing the lens ....
Or is sending it to the service center the only choice. Is this covered under warranty as it is only a few months old. And when not in use it is always kept in Dry Cabinet.

It does only appear on small aperture .....
I read the manual if the automatic sensor cleaning doesnt remove it, should bring to service centre let the expert do it and that the sensor is very'delicate' not suppose to brush it .... donnno whether they just want to make money or we can try use brush to brush it ....
yup i believe it is dust on your sensor, i had some on my 400D too that was too small to see.
Sensor cleaning is not covered under camera warranty, so it'll be something like $20 or $25 for cleaning at the CSC. However, i have read from others that some cameras came back with more spots after cleaning, so remember to do a good check as advised a few threads above.
Some others have also cleaned their own sensor regularly without issue, but i do remember that it is not done with a brush but with a swab. If still not confident to do on your own, maybe better to spend that amount for CSC cleaning otherwise damage to sensor is going to cost you much more.
oh and i think sensor dust is not going to be prevented from keeping camera in dry cabinet. That is only for controlling humidity and preventing fungus. whenever you change lens there is dust in the air that will go into the camera body. can't help it one...

this is a very seriously infection known as s5proitis.
you have contracted it by wading through a swamp at 11.59 pm exactly in singapore.
jokes aside, that's probably dust on the sensor.
please google for "dslr sensor dust" to find out more on the subject.
you can brush it - only with high quality soft artist brush (which some people have done) which is definitely clean - regularly cleaning it with alcohol of sorts is recommended, else you will just smear the sensor with dirt and dust and oils.
a good example of a glorified artist brush with a little spinning motor is the extremely overpriced artic butterfly.
to be honest, DIY yourself, just need blower + pec pads/sensor swabs + eclipse cleaning solution.
i don't even use pec pads, i use high quality cotton buds. started using those 2 years ago, i don't think my pictures have any problems.
everyone wants to think their sensors are tofu, need a technician to do it with "specialised equipment"? think again. you should read up on what the techs in the servicing centres do.
of course, paying the money so that you can get a new camera if the techs screw up is a form of insurance.
i don't even know how you could screw up though. i do not have the most nimble fingers.
canon/nikon/fuji/pentax/sony technicians have special powers? :bsmilie:

some people use 3m tape... i don't even want to think about how that is done.....
there is the lenspen version of sensor thing, which is probably jsut a lenspen in diamond shape, that's called sensorklear.
brush - google "artic butterfly" - doesn't help with welded dust - that's dust with moisture. brushing it won't help.
as far as i'm concerned, after trying some of the methods that i'm more comfortable with (e.g. sensorklear, artic butterfly, sensorswabs, sensor swab spatula with pec pads, erm cotton buds).. all you need is a blower and/or wet cleaning of sorts.
