Hi

I am using a new 70 200mm EF4L IS USM, I noticed that there is a whirring sound when I am in IS mode and focusing. Is that normal or do I have a faulty lens.

Thanks

That's the USM and the IS.

The EF 70-200mm f/4 is quite a quiet piece of lens. The sound you described should be normal.
No longer are these new lenses as noisy as the older EF lenses when they do AF hunting, when you can actually hear some 'banging' sounds.
Do a comparison with another 70-200mm f/4 from the shop that you bought, and you will have a rough idea.
... unless yours is particularly noisy, then may need some CSC help.

You'll here some jamming noise when the IS locks into place

very normal, the IS sound for this lens is rather loud

depends how much work it has to do....there are a couple of people who simply off the IS on "easy" shots.

You should have worried more if you don't hear any sound when the IS kicks in
