Need help .... anyone who have relatives or old parents who are above 70+ and healthy find community and meaningful activities in Singapore? Most of the community centres have activites for the 40 to 50+ ....

Of course, plse dont recommend the airports, chinatown, geylang, etc... sort of activities.

Thanks for any ideas ......

In Singapore, there are lots of Senior Activities Center for elders to socialise or centers conducting group works which cater to the specific needs of the elders. If you can specify the interests, maybe I can help by asking around. I will be meeting some people on 2 Apr who are serving the needs of the elders, hopefully will find one to meet his/her need. If not convenient to share in public, can also PM. If more towards intellectual kind of activities, please mention that also.

I've seen a group of seniors playing croquet, something like a polo without horseback riding or something like that, looks like fun. Or try lawn bowl something that stimulates the mind, movement control and a little bit of sweat should be good options I think.

There are several associations that caters to the elderly. In particular, those that are formed for people of a certain dialect group, certain interests (ie wayang singing, musical instrument) and even by surname.

What i despise is some of the associations are formed primarily for gambling. Take a stroll along angsiang/club street and you can hear majong sounds almost 24/7.

Some clubs are really healthy and promotes makan sessions, frequent meets and even a time for festivals celebration.

Choose wisely and dont get involved in the club's politics. Do not expect the club to help one achieve unreasonable goals. However, through such networking, one's circle of friends can definitely get widened.

All I can say is, do not restrict such clubs to locality. One may find a great community to join at the heart of chinatown. Well, its about chemistry and shared interests.

Otherwise, go to a few country clubs to mingle with top executives and businessmen.

While i am not in my 70s, i am a committee for an aged old community club. I feel they are a happy bunch who gathers to chit chat. Gambling is out of the club's rules for these folks as the intent to gamble is evil at its core.

Since you're asking this in a photography forum, photography comes to mind.

oh that rings a bell. I remember in one of the outdoor shoots with canonised, we saw a group of seniors (> 25 photographers) doing a photoshoot on a lady in traditional costume. I wont name that club here, but i think they are a friendly bunch.
